Drops & Bubbles Tecnología, S.L. participates in the development project of a new filtration technology focused on solving the natural Bloom of microalgae in desalination plants.
The objective of the project is to develop a modular solution based on filtration techniques for the protection of desalination plants against large natural outcrops of microalgae. The system will allow to reduce the impact of microbial blooms phenomena in the treatment plants with reverse osmosis membranes; as a consequence, a reduction in maintenance work, significant savings in operating costs and an increase in useful life of the elements of the desalination plant.
The BLOOM project work team is made up of a multidisciplinary consortium of three entities: SISTEMA AZUD, S.A (leader), Drops & Bubbles Tecnología, SL and the University of Seville which participates in the research through the Department of Aerospace Engineering and Fluid Mechanics (US-MPFLOW) and the Institute of Plant Biochemistry and Photosynthesis (US-IBVF), specialist in biotechnology of microalgae.
The project has been funded by the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities - State Research Agency and co-financed by the European Union through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), within the call RETOS-COLABORACION 2017 that supports projects in cooperation between companies and research organizations, whose objective is to promote technological development, innovation and quality research.
